In between writing her blog and penning articles at HelloBeautiful.com and TalkingTexture.com, Ty took some time out to chat with us about spring trends, the items every woman should have in her closet, common misconceptions about bloggers—and of course, what’s in her Ultimate Beauty Arsenal. Read on to learn more.
In 3-5 sentences tell us a little about yourself and what you do.
I’m a freelance beauty and lifestyle writer based in New York City. I’ve been writing professionally (meaning I get paid to do this) for the past five years. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
What makes GorgeousinGrey.com different from other style and beauty sites?
Obviously the fact that I embrace my grey hair, lol. But beyond that, I try to be as transparent with my readers as I can. You can expect to read my truth. Whether it’s the truth about my beauty routine, what size I wear or even how I’m coping with my mother’s death. Every reader is my homegirl. They know the real Ty.
What three items should be in every woman's closet and why?
Wooden hangers! A part of a great closet is having the proper hangers to showcase your looks. A fitted blazer. No matter the size a fitted blazer never fails any woman. Pair it with distressed jeans and heels or your favorite printed maxi dress and sandals.
What would you designate as the spring fashion trend du jour-- the one that every plus sized woman should give a try?
Overalls are a huge trend for the spring and summer. With the right fit, it’s the perfect garment for plus size women to get creative with their personal style.
What is your current routine for caring for your gorgeous natural grey tresses?
My only routine is using a clarifying shampoo for my grey hair. Right now I am swooning over Ouidad’s Superfruit Renewal Clarifying Cream Shampoo.
What 3 products are in your Ultimate Beauty Arsenal—those beauty items you just cannot live without?
MAC Heroine, Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray, Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil
Do you have an everyday skincare and beauty routine? If yes, please walk us through it.
Every morning when I wake up I pluck my eyebrows and my chin hairs (don’t judge me)! I usually wash my face at night but I am too lazy to do it in the morning. So I rinse my face with warm water and then moisturize my face. Then I apply my makeup as fast as I can because I am usually running late.
What is the biggest misconception you think people have about bloggers?
People either think we are really rich or really poor. Most are somewhere in the middle making a decent living doing something they love.
What has been your proudest blogging achievement to date?
My biggest achievement in blogging happened early on. I quit my comfortable government job to move to NYC to become a writer in 2012. I haven’t blinked or looked back since that day.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us—what’s next for Gorgeous in Grey?
I think I will take a vacation next, LOL.
