Tiffany M. Battle: The Werk! Place

When Tiffany Battle wakes up in the morning and gets ready to head to her job as a Process Engineer, she also hopes to inspire you to try to look your very best! Tiffany started The Werk! Place as a site to give great fashion inspiration—and that she does. From a well-placed belt, to a feminine ruffle, to an impeccable heel, she shows you how to ‘werk’ your wardrobe in polished and unexpected ways. In this month’s COCOBlogger feature, learn more about how The Werk! Place got its start, what Tiffany’s experience was like at New York Fashion Week, and what’s in her Ultimate Beauty Arsenal.

In 3-5 sentences tell us a little about yourself and what you do?
I was born and raised in Southfield, Michigan and I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Howard University. During the day, I work as a Process Engineer for one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world. However, my passion for style has allowed me to create and run the personal style blog, The Werk! Place.

What initially drew you to blogging, and what keeps you inspired to continue?
The inspiration to start The Werk! Place came from a friend I met during a milestone birthday trip in Europe. She put the spark in my head to start a fashion blog based on what I was wearing throughout the week. Five months later, The Werk! Place was born.

I continue to blog because I love doing it and the opportunities within blogging are limitless. Honestly, whatever I think I want to do, I can do it through The Werk! Place. Fashion touches every aspect of life.

If you had one hour to shop a store and pick out an outfit from head to toe, where would you shop and why?
And an unlimited budget? BCBG Max Azria. Their clothing is art and they really pay attention to details. Seriously, I could create something totally unique from head to toe. They have amazing prints, creative accessories and an overall vision for style.

Which style trends are you most looking forward to for fall?
TASSLES! I am clinically obsessed with them. I can’t even begin to explain it. I think its the movement and texture. Any little something extra just really does it for me.

You recently attended New York Fashion Week. What was your experience like and has it inspired any new content for The Werk! Place?
Always! New York Fashion Week is definitely the place to get inspiration. It makes me want to re-evaluate everything that I’m doing with my life! It’s kind of the same way I felt after Beyonce dropped her visual album. There’s more that I need to be doing and I need to start doing it now!

It also encourages me to step outside of my normal go to labels and designers. At the end of each day during fashion week, I’ll sit down and look at my photos and go “Oh, I really liked that. Who is the designer?” Fashion week is so fast and visually overwhelming that if you blink you may miss it. It’s really an awesome experience.

Do you have a regular skincare and beauty routine? If so, what is it?
I must keep a regular skin care routine and a regular dermatology appointment because the way this adult acne shows up on my face is just disrespectful.

Lately, I’ve been using the SkinMedica Line of products, which includes: TNS Recovery Complex, Ultra Sheer Moisturizer, and a Daily Physical Defense Sunscreen in SPF 30+. I have also been using Philosophy’s Purity since forever and believe it’s one of the best facial cleansers that you can own!

Every six weeks, I’ll get some kind of chemical peel. For the last couple of months, I’ve been using SkinMedica’s Vitalize peel.

What three beauty products are in your Ultimate Beauty Arsenal–those items you just can’t live without, and why?
Bare Minerals Tan Foundation, NW35 Under Eye concealer and Benefits They’re Real Mascara. I’m pretty sure that you can take over the world with the right mascara.

Any advice on how other women can best "werk" what's in their closets?
I think it depends on what’s in the closet. If your clothing fits your body and is classic enough to cross multiple seasons, then you can just add a few trendy pieces to stay current.

What has been your proudest blogging achievement to date?
I would have to say being nominated for Vanity Fair’s Users Choice Award for June 2014.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
In October, I’ll be celebrating my 2nd Blogiversay and I’m so thankful to even be at this point. I plan on hosting my first meet and greet event in DC to commemorate the occasion. Follow the The Werk! Place for updates on this event and future projects.
