How did pHreshWellness get its start?
pHreshWellness was conceived in the spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship, and wellness. As a former Beauty Marketing Executive, I’ve helped build beauty and wellness brands from startup to mass retail success. I love creating and building brands, but it came to a point in my life when I wanted to pivot my energy to impact, strategy and ownership.
When I was a child, I had a family member/caregiver pass away from breast cancer, it was devastating and changed my entire world. Fast forward to pre-covid, a close family member become a breast cancer survivor. After this discovery, I started using natural deodorant only and I knew my first product had to be a natural deodorant. Everyone knows a breast cancer survivor - that’s not a good thing. I want to help women and their families become healthier through a wellness lifestyle and making the switch to natural personal care products.
When Covid hit, my son and I went to Mexico for a couple of months to escape the energy and seek a healthier way of being. Upon return, I spent over 3 years researching ingredients, formulating natural products, and testing with consumers. At last, in February 2023, we released the brand. We are a slow and steady startup with longevity.
What’s most important to you as a company?
Reducing Illnesses, specifically Breast Cancer - Black women have a higher rate of death from breast cancer than any other ethnicity of women. 1 in 3 of all new cancers each year are breast cancer attributed to the aluminum and estrogen producing parabens which cause cancer. pHreshwellness seeks to help reduce the risk of women getting breast cancer.
Supporting Women - Busy Moms’ and Aunties are realizing more than ever the power of wellness. Consistent fitness routines, good nutrition, solid emotional well-being (creating boundaries, managing stress and anxiety) with adequate water and rest, a huge part of the wellness recipe. Our economic goal is to create a circular economy with more women millionaires.

Which chemicals should women avoid to live an optimized life of wellness?
What we put on our skin is just as important as the food we eat. Our skin is our largest organ and is as susceptible to illness through chemically-laden personal care products, as much as the food we eat is a contributing factor.
Large amounts of estrogen can promote the growth of breast cancer cells, directly related to the aluminum-based compounds in antiperspirants and the development of breast cancer. Aluminum-based deodorants are absorbed through the skin and accumulate in the lymph nodes, potentially leading to cancerous cells and growth.
Research suggests that aluminum-based compounds, which are applied frequently and left on the skin near the breast, may be absorbed by the skin and cause estrogen-like effects (hormonal effects). Parabens, chemicals used as preservatives found in many types of make-up (lipstick, mascara, concealer, and foundation) and skin care products (like lotion, shaving products, antiperspirant, and sunscreen). Parabens can be absorbed through the skin, on our bodies’ largest organ. Parabens have been raised as a possible health concern because lab studies have shown that they have weak estrogen-like properties. Estrogen is a female hormone known to cause breast cells (both normal and cancer cells) to grow.
