How did the Humble Co. get its start?

The Humble Co. started in 2013, founded by the Swedish dentist Noel. He was volunteering in Jamaica and was concerned with the large amounts of plastic brushes the volunteers left behind and decided to go to market with a bamboo toothbrush. Since then, we have expanded into all subsegments of oral care and offer a complete portfolio of sustainable oral care items. 

What are your company’s product values?

We believe in minimizing single-use plastic and incorporating plant-based materials in our products to reduce stress on the planet. We also give back 1% of all sales to our non-profit organization The Humble Smile Foundation. All products are vegan and cruelty-free. Better for you, and better for the planet.

What inspired your plant-based Floss Picks?

We wanted to create a product people could use on a daily basis with less plastic content, and incorporating plant-based materials such as corn-starch and wheat husk. With most options on the market consisting of 100% plastics, we wanted to offer an alternative to consumers who care – not only about the performance of the item; but also, what happens after you’re done using the item and its impact on our planet.

What makes your floss picks different from other brands?

We incorporate plant-based materials to limit the use of plastics. Our picks are also double-threaded, and catches more debris compared to a single-threaded floss pick. Our floss does not contain benzene, polytetrafluoroethylene, PFAS compounds, or any toxic flavorings.

How important is flossing to oral hygiene?

Flossing is perhaps the most important step in your oral care routine, and should never be skipped. We can’t stress enough how important it is that you floss, regardless of what kind of floss you prefer – a floss pick or the classic dental floss.

What tips can you give us on how and when to floss? 

We recommend flossing at least once a day. Carefully wiggle the floss between your teeth until it reaches your gum and make sure to floss each side of the teeth while being gentle to your gums. Remember to floss before you brush your teeth to make sure you flush out the debris.

What sustainable materials are the Floss Picks made from?

Our bio-based certified floss picks contain plant-based materials such as corn-starch and wheat husk, and PP to hold the plant-based formulation together. 

What other flavors do the floss picks come in?

All floss picks have a mint flavor, but we also offer a charcoal option that comes in a darker color.
