Stacey Bethel: Editor-in-Chief, Triple The Focus E-Magazine

Noticing a gap in the market and trailblazing a niche is what helps to make many online brands and publications key players in the digital field. That’s exactly what has happened for Triple the Focus E-Magazine. When Editor-in-Chief, Stacey Bethel, saw that there was nothing online that was focusing on, or catering to the Caribbean experience, she set out to create that content herself. Now Triple the Focus can boast over 2,900,000 million page views; a feature by digital publishing platform, Issue; and a successful women’s empowerment event, Ladies Who Brunch, that was covered by Emmy award winning journalist, Nicole Johnson, and featured on WPIX 11.

What was the inspiration behind the start of Triple the Focus E-Magazine and what is its main purpose?
The inspiration behind Triple the Focus was to celebrate Caribbean lifestyle in its entirety, whether it is travel, music, fitness, finance, health, or fashion, etc. We currently don’t have (another) publication that does that, so I wanted to create something that showcases all the Caribbean Diaspora has to offer in a positive light.

Tell us about a day in the life of Editor-in-Chief of a digital magazine. What is your favorite part about what you do?

My day varies. I can spend hours sending and responding to emails. I also have a host of interns to manage and to give my attention. I also do a fair amount of writing and editing for the magazine and other projects. I am pretty hands-on with everything that involves the magazine so it gets a little hectic. But it’s extremely rewarding--I learn something new everyday. My absolute favorite thing about being a part of this journey is the creative process.

What has been your proudest moment so far as Editor-in-Chief?
Creating our empowerment series "Ladies Who Brunch." There is something magical about being around like-minded women and working together to assist each other. I want to see that grow globally. Imagine what we could achieve if we had a network of millions of influential women working toward a common goal at our fingertips. I'm all about it!

What is the best piece of business advice you have ever received?

A purpose driven life is a beautiful life. A purpose driven life is a beautiful life.

Let's talk style and beauty. How do you highlight your personal style in business settings or for the office?

My personal style in and out of the office is pretty much the same. For me it’s about comfortable, classic pieces that can transform from day to night. I am not someone who's into trends. I like to be able to wear my clothes 5 or 10 years from now.

What's in your Ultimate Beauty Arsenal--those 3 Holy Grail products you just can't live without?

I love beauty products. I particularly love taking care of my skin. As such, I cannot go a day without moisturizer, blush or lipgloss.

What new products are you incorporating into your beauty routine this spring?

I am in love with the Milani Tea Rose powder blush that I received in one of my monthly COCOTIQUE boxes. I use it almost everyday. My good friend and beauty expert, Christene Carr, gave me Elf Mineral Face Primer that is now among my must wear beauty items. It gives me a glow that lasts all day long. And lastly, I recently purchased Inglot Lip Duo #21. The pink tones are absolutely divine.

What is your favorite tried and true skincare tip or trick?
I swear by Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I use it to deep condition my natural hair, and to remove mascara and eyeliner. A few months ago I noticed that my eyebrows were thinning so I have been putting black castor oil on them every night and much to my amazement they have gotten thicker.

What does it mean to you to live a beautiful life?
To live a life of service. My motto is 'To whom much is given, much is required!' I believe in blessing others as others have blessed me. It's a cycle of empowerment. I am happiest when I can provide assistance. It's important to me--a purpose driven life is a beautiful life.
