Naty Michele: A Love Affair With Fashion

Naty Michele is the stylish blogger behind A Love Affair With Fashion. She combines her love for fashion, beauty, lifestyle and music into posts that showcase her personal style and give an inside look at her life. In this COCOBlogger of the Month interview, Naty reveals how she started blogging, and why it’s important to step outside of your comfort zone; and she lets us in on her secret for achieving the perfect barrel curl.

Naty, tell us a bit about who you are and what you do.

I’ve been blogging for the past 3 and ½ years with a focus on my own personal style. I have also expanded into posts about beauty, lifestyle, travel and more personal pieces too. In addition to my love for fashion and writing, music has also played an important role in my life as I have been singing for as long as I can remember. Overall, I am a very creative and passionate person and love to share that with others.

When I look back at what I have accomplished outside of my comfort zone, it just gives me a great feeling. When I look back at what I have accomplished outside of my comfort zone, it just gives me a great feeling.

What inspired you to begin blogging at A Love Affair With Fashion?

I was going through a really difficult time in my life and was entering this transition phase where I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I was initially just looking for a new creative outlet and way to express myself. I’ve always had a love for fashion and would share my outfits with friends on Facebook. A few people suggested that I start a blog and after contemplating it for a while, I literally just decided to do it one day with no intentions of it ever becoming anything.

Is blogging your full time occupation? How do you balance it with your other responsibilities?

Yes, it has become full time. In addition to my blog, I also blog for four New Jersey malls on a part-time basis. I have been doing that for almost two years now. Blogging is very time consuming, especially when you are doing everything on your own. It can definitely be a bit overwhelming at times. I have so much going on in my personal life, so I think I am still constantly figuring out ways to balance everything out. It’s really just been a learning process for me.

I am super petite at only 4’11”, so I like to challenge myself. I don’t let my height stop me when it comes to fashion. I am super petite at only 4’11”, so I like to challenge myself. I don’t let my height stop me when it comes to fashion.

You've been featured in publications like Cosmo for Latinas and People Style Watch, as well as online outlets like E! Online and Refinery29. What has been your proudest blogging moment to date?

I think I am proudest of the moments where I really had to step outside of my comfort zone. I won a contest last year with P&G Beauty and Lucky Magazine where I had to do a video casting. After I won, I did a video campaign with the other girls. Videos have always made me so nervous, but I knew I needed to break out of my shell and push past my fears. When I look back at what I have accomplished outside of my comfort zone, it just gives me a great feeling.

How would you describe your personal style in three words?

Simple, Chic and Edgy

What trends are you looking forward to incorporating into your wardrobe for summer?

Lately, I have been all about wide leg pants. I am super petite at only 4’11”, so I like to challenge myself and wear things that shorter girls aren’t typically known for wearing. I don’t let my height stop me when it comes to fashion.

What are some fun new beauty products you plan to try out for summer?

I just started getting into makeup setting sprays, which I think is so important to use during the summer months. I’ve been obsessed with my YSL highlighter and this eyelash primer from Sephora. I’m looking forward to trying out some bold new lipstick shades and illuminators for summer.

We love your signature wavy hairstyles. What's your trick for getting the perfect big barrel curl?

Thank you! I use a 1 – 1 ½” curling wand. After every curl, I comb through to make them seem more natural. I also use a ton of hair spray!

Do you have an easy everyday beauty routine that anyone could emulate? Tell us about it.

For daytime makeup, I try to keep it super simple. I use my foundation and concealer with a little bit of bronzer and blush. I add some mascara, eyeliner on my bottom lid and finish it off with a pink lip.
