How did you discover your star indigenous ingredient, Marula Oil?
Nyla Naturals is a result of my moisture hungry hair and skin. I began researching ultra-hydrating products and oils, but some products on the market were not living up to their ultra-hydrating promises. So we found and experimented with several natural oils and butters, and the oil that stuck out was the Marula Oil. It was the most beautiful (feeling) oil I had ever met! We started formulating hair and skin oils and products, using Marula as the base. What excites me is that this oil was under my nose all the time. I cannot wait for the rest of the world to meet Marula Oils.
What were the first 5 steps you took in order to create and launch Nyla Naturals?
Why is it important for Nyla Naturals products to be chemical free and never tested on animals?
"Some chemicals found in common Black hair products such as straighteners/relaxers (perms), detanglers, colorants, shampoos and conditioners… are believed to be linked to reproductive effects and birth defects, breast cancer, heart disease, cognitive disorders, premature puberty and altered immune function, to name a few."
We have done quite a bit of research on the hair care industry for African hair and found that most products are laden with toxic chemicals. Research such as the above in quotes drives us to look for and create products that are only enriching to our natural hair and skin.
We want to offer products that are impact driven, not only profit driven. We are passionate about offering green beauty products that are sustainable, support communities in the regions they are harvested and empower individual distributors of our products.
We continue to uphold high ethics in the beauty industry, and (we are) vehemently against animal testing! Our products are pure enough to "test" on ourselves!

- We researched like crazy.
- Then we formulated, experimented and tested on my and my family’s hair and skin (with many failed attempts).
- Once formulations were ready, we bottled and labeled each product ourselves.
- We launched Nyla Naturals through Markets
- We created an online presence and now continue to build this brand through social media and visits to salons and health shops.
