How did the brand get its start?

I have extremely sensitive skin and could not find a product to shave with that did not irritate my skin or cause me to break out and get red bumps and ingrown hairs. I kept seeing so many new and innovative products in the Men’s Shave section but everything in the Women’s Shave area was basically the same type of products I had seen for decades! When I started to look at many of the ingredients, they were filled with chemicals and synthetic fragrance. So, I decided it was time to develop something premium for women whose needs were overlooked. We initially launched on Amazon at a $28 retail and we received all 5-star reviews. The formula is very expensive to make, but we were fortunate to partner with one of the largest retail chains and this allowed us to buy in much larger quantities and get the price point to where Brazilian Bare is still an affordable luxury… without cheapening the formula!

How did you come up with the name Shave Syrup?

The product looked just like maple syrup to me and I also wanted to convey that this was not just another shave cream or gel, but something entirely different and unique with premium ingredients.

What are the key ingredients in this unique alternative?

First, we don’t use any synthetic fragrances, as the greatest scent only comes from Vanilla Bean Extract. Second, we use wonderful, effective ingredients like Grape Seed extract, Olive Leaf Extract, Witch Hazel Extract, and Allantoin. What are the benefits of these key ingredients? There are so many to name! Many of the ingredients used provide superior protection to the skin while shaving, while others are known antioxidants that help guard your skin from environmental damage.

Is this good for all skin types?

Yes, it is great for all skin types and most importantly, it is really a game-changer for those that get red bumps and ingrown hairs.

Can you please share some shaving tips with us?

1. Invest in a good Razor as having a great shave product is only half of the equation. You need a great razor. My favorite is actually a men’s razor that vibrates. I prefer it because many women’s blades have these big heads that are bulky and meant to protect you while shaving, but you don’t need this if you have a great shave syrup!
2. Shave at the end of your shower. This allows your hair to soften and allows for a closer shave.
3. Use a clear product that allows you to see where you are shaving to avoid going over the same area twice.

Is this Shave Syrup good for men as well?

Absolutely! I recently had a woman write to me and tell me that her tube disappeared quickly, but then realized that her husband had been stealing it. Another woman wrote that her husband, who is an avid cyclist, had been using it to shave his whole body and found it allowed him to shave more frequently than any other product he had used in the past. It is great for anyone who wants an incredible shave!

As an entrepreneur, what advice do you have for other women who want to be entrepreneurs?

I think it is extremely helpful to have worked in some capacity in the area where you want to start your business. No school, book, or webinar can prepare you for this undertaking like having to perform and live it in real life. I worked for 22 years as a buyer and was exposed to everything from shipping to merchandising to product development. So, I was fortunate to have had a particularly useful background that helped to avoid expensive mistakes. Such experience also allows you to build a trusted network of business colleagues who can be invaluable in navigating all aspects of business ownership.
