The life of a Hollywood leading lady has certainly been good to Vivica A. Fox. With over 100 movie and television roles under her belt ranging from Set It Off to Kill Bill and most recently a reoccurring role on the hit TV series Empire. Off screen, Vivica has managed to build her own empire that includes successful production, hair and clothing companies while at the same time maintaining her balance when it comes to taking time for herself. Vivica’s longtime friend and our Editorial Director, Alexia Roca, chats with Vivica A. Fox about her ultimate beauty arsenal, pampering and Vivica’s Black Magic.

WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY PHILOSOPHY? HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR BUSY LIFESTYLE AND MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF?

My beauty philosophy is I work very hard, but I always make sure I take time for me. When I say make some time for me, it means that I have ME days. I’m not afraid to take ME days and that means going to the spa, getting facials, getting pampered, getting my nails done, getting my toes done and just turning off and not being afraid of having a ME day. I completely pamper and spoil myself.

WITH SUCH A JET SET LIFESTYLE, TRAVELING FROM COAST-TO-COAST FOR WORK AND PLEASURE, WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE BEAUTY ARSENAL – WHAT CAN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT?

Oh my gosh, oh my spritzer! Shu Uemura’s, Rose Depsea Water Facial Mist I’ve been using it for years—And as her friend, I can say that she swears by this Depsea Water facial mist that’s formulated with several herbal aromas for all skin types.

WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TO SUCH GREAT SKIN?

I do monthly microdermabrasion oxygen facials.

HOW DO YOU PAMPER YOURSELF?

I love to go to Beverly Hot Springs and get body care treatments. They massage you with honey, oil, and milk, wash your hair and give you a cucumber mask. That is just the ultimate! It’s the besttttt!!

WHEN TRAVELING, DO YOU HAVE ANY BEAUTY RITUAL THAT YOU DO ON THE ROAD?

The steam room! I gotta find me a good ole steam room---HYDRATE, HYDRATE! Once we get older, we really have to learn to hydrate. You gotta drink that water and keep that skin moisturized! Because honey, especially when traveling, you can get up in the morning and find a big dry patch!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FRAGRANCE?

Joe Malone’s, Red Roses. I used to use Bulgari, now I’m all about Joe Malone, Red Roses, with a little men’s Cartier Pasha—I put a little woodsy in there.

WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING WHAT ARE YOUR DAILY AND NIGHTLY ROUTINES?

When I’m not working, I get up in the mornings and have a nice cup of coffee and then I usually go in my office and pay bills and catch up with my emails and all that good stuff. Then I usually go to the Beverly Hot Springs and steam and soak in the hot water and do a little meditation and then have lunch or a lunch meeting. In the evenings, if I can, I usually spend time with my Godchildren.

YOU HAVE PLAYED OVER 100 ROLES IN YOUR CAREER THAT HAVE ALLOWED YOU A VARIETY OF LOOKS, WHICH HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE ROLE?

OH, Two Can Play That Game! Shanté honey! Shanté had on the Versace suit, drove a Jaguar and wore Dior. Shanté was fabulous!!

HOW INVOLVED ARE YOU WHEN YOU ARE IN HAIR AND MAKE-UP FOR A ROLE VS. PERSONAL APPEARANCES? WHAT INSPIRES SOME OF YOUR LOOKS?

Heavily involved! I always try to wear the Vivica Fox Hair Collection.
For personal appearances, I take the event into consideration. If it is a glamorous event, I’m going to need a gown. I always have a theme for my events. If its rock-n-roll, then I’m going to wear something more edgier. If it’s an awards ceremony, of course I’m going to wear a beautiful gown—a theme that is appropriate for the event. I also sometimes look up my style divas, women that I totally admire. If I want to go for something vintage look, I may look up something that Sophia Loren or Raquel Welch wore. Sometimes I’ll go for a classic look, something that Iman wore. I love looking up my style divas!

IN ADDITION TO A SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN HOLLYWOOD, YOU HAVE RECENTLY VENTURED INTO THE HAIR INDUSTRY, TELL US ABOUT VIVICA A. FOX HAIR.

The Vivica Fox Hair Collection is something that I have been doing for eight years. We’ve just been extended another three seasons, which I am very proud of because we have been very successful. I think the main reason that the Vivica Hair Collection is so successful is that we try to introduce 60-80 new wigs onto the market; we stay current, affordable and fashionable.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE WIGS?

Sunflower- the reason I like Sunflower, is because she has luscious long locks parted down the middle. Oria- I love her because she’s that wet and wavy carefree look that can easily go from day to night or to any event
Then there’s Mindy. I love her because she is all about big hair, don’t care! Be a Rock Star!

WHAT’S NEXT ON THE HORIZON FOR VIVICA? HOW ELSE ARE YOU EXPANDING YOUR BRAND?

I have a new TV show debuting in 2017 called Vivica’s Black Magic! On the show, I take eight male exotic dancers and take them on a journey to get a residency in Las Vegas. It’s coming out on Lifetime on Wednesday nights starting January 4th at 10PM. You can also catch me on Empire on Fox playing Cookie’s older sister, Candace and then switch over and see me being that head chick in charge bossing the guys around! I just made directorial debut. I directed my rap artist, Thomas Hobbs’ video, called “We On”. I’m also working on my book! It’s going to be motivational and inspirational.

Be sure to check out Vivica’s clothing line, the Vivica A. Fox Collection, in conjunction with Poetic Justice, a lifestyle collection that caters to women with curves that can take you from the classroom to the boardroom. In addition to all of this, Vivica will also make history as the first black woman to play the role of Commander-in-Chief in an upcoming sci-fi film, Crossbreed.

YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO WOMEN OF ALL AGES WITH ALL OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS, WHO INSPIRES YOU?

Women like Michelle Obama. I love her elegance, grace and class. Taraji P. Henson, who plays my sister on Empire inspires me. She works her ass off and looks fabulous while doing it! And I’m going to say my world champion LA Sparks team! I love seeing those girls win a national championship, work so hard and look sexy and sassy while kicking butt playing ball!

YOU HAVE A HUGE SOCIAL MEDIA FOLLOWING AND ARE KNOWN FOR SOME OF YOUR HASHTAGS. WHAT CAN YOU LEAVE WOMEN WITH TO EMPOWER THEM TODAY?

Don’t be afraid to make boss moves! #LoveWins and #StayOnYourGrind

You can keep up with Vivica as she stays on her grind on Instagram and Twitter.
